This is my first ebike. I've never been on one before. I was so worried that it would be slow, wouldn't get up hills, wouldn't go far enough.
Holy cow this thing is awesome. It'll do 30mph. I've ridden it 60 miles in the last 4 days. I figured I'd range test it this morning.
I went 21 miles just using the motor riding in mixed road/traffic conditions. It only used 3 out of 5 bars so it still has room left in it.
Basically I'd say the short of it is that it should go as far as you should reasonably expect an ebike to go.
I'm glad i chose a bike with a rear suspension. It really helps to take the pain out of the ride.
I charge it off of 4/100 watt solar panels and it does great.
Quick math for those that care.
Bike battery has 48v x 20ah = 960watts
As a general rule of thumb you lose about 40% of your solar panels rated power through inefficiencies and conversion losses so from a 100w panel you only get to use about 60w
So 400w solar array -40% = 240w
240w × 4 hours solar charging a day = 960
Understand I don't charge the bike battery directly. I use the panels to charge a battery bank and then I power the bikes battery charger with a power inverter.
I know. TMI. But in case anybody cares. You to can have an off grid solar roller in lemon yellow.
Edit: I've got about eight hundred miles on it so far. It's been my daily driver for the last few months. I've used it for commuting in below freezing weather and in the rain and no real issues so far. Tires are holding up great.
Still being powered entirely by my photon mining equipment.
It's not comparable to a Tesla or a gas powered truck or anything like that just because of useage weight and speed, but in the function of transporting me to and from work and local stores it's powered me entirely from what I've been able to mine from the surface of the sun.
I don't even look at gas prices anymore and there is no additional strain on the power grid or waiting in line at a supercharger
Edit 2: a little over 900 miles. I added a 100w solar panel to the back. Found an adjustable mppt charge controller to step up the voltage to the battery. The stock charger outputs 54.6v @3a. I set the solar charge controller to 51.4v so that it shouldn't take it to full charge which should help extend the cycle life of the battery.
Probably final edit: around 1400 miles. Still running the original tires, still have the solar panel on the back. Transportation fuel/energy independence is awesome
2500+ miles. Still doing fine. Still on the original tires routinely do 40 mile rides. Still rollin with the solar panel.
3800 miles. Need to replace the rear tire soon.
5100 miles. Still original battery. Still rolling with the solar panel.
I will try to make this a short and sweet review... lol
PROS-- This is a STRONG motor that has plenty of power... 80lbs of torque!! It can easily push you on an upgrade/uphill slope.
Next, it says it can handle 400 lbs. of weight! I bought this bike for my husband (250 lbs.) last summer and it works well!! We are a part of a seniors biking gang, and we have a blast!! My husband has had knee replacements, and needed a bike that was a step thru... this met the mark!!
The battery is a 20 Amp. Hour battery and can last for a long ride! (Others in our group have been "towed" back... lol)
Another positive about this bike is the great customer service! That's important where you are not let high and dry after the purchase.
When I bought my SECOND Fucare Libra, the pedal assist did not work although the thumb throttle worked just fine! I contacted Renovo and they responded promptly and sent me the sensor replacement piece and the tool needed to replace the sensor... (the tool to pull the peddle shaft out).
The repair was pretty easy, even though I resisted the thought of having to "fix" a NEW bike!! I guessed it was going to be difficult to return, soooo, I said OK that I would attempt the repair... the repair was pretty easy and Renovo compensated me a pannier bag for the back of my bike for my trouble.
Another PRO is the suspension on the back... many bikes do not have that.
And another PRO is the charger is FAST!! Faster than my previous Himiway step thru bike (which was not really a step thru!!)
CONS-- The seat was not too comfortable so I got a big butt old lady seat and it works great!!
If you install the back rack on the bike, you can not get the battery off the bike. We drilled new holes in the back basket and moved it backwards so the battery could be removed from bike for charging, IF you choose.
You can always just charge the battery while ON the bike, but I prefer to remove it, especially in HOT weather.
I WOULD RECOMMEND this bike, and actually, I have recommended it!! My brother got the white Libra!! He is a large man, 275lbs, and he loves that this bike can move him well!!!
Initial reaction after a couple days.
Shipping:
came 3 days later than quoted, but this was FedEx fault, not Renovo.
Packaging:
Best I’ve ever seen, every piece meticulously wrapped, secure, and well cushioned.
Assembly:
All tools needed are included (other than you might need a pair of pliers and a small piece of rubber to squeeze axle to allow you to loosen axle nuts to install wheel). Excellent instructions ( BTW, front fender is packed above rear fender). 45 min job done at a leisurely pace. Anyone with very basic hand tool skills should have no problem assembling. Don’t squeeze brake handle once you’ve pulled out brake pad spacer until wheel is installed.
Charging:
Came 80% charged, Charger decent quality.
First ride:
Even on lowest pedal assist, assist is strong. Very solid, stable. Excellent Brakes and suspension. I’m 200 LB and I an satisfied with its ability to take off on a hill. It’s heavy, but you don’t notice weight while in motion. Headlight is very bright. Color display is bright, controls intuitive.
TBC: I’ll do my best to remember to report back after some time & usage.
All in all, very satisfied with the bike so far. I won’t recommend for shorter riders. This is a big, full sized bike. Came with some nice accessories like tool kit, bike lock, touch up paint.
Available add ons, front or rear basket, back rest for second rider, rear foot pegs, has mounts for water bottle holder or storage container. I plan to model & 3D print a storage container/water bottle holder to mount on main frame.
God bless,
Casey
Normally, I don't write reviews for the products I buy, but this time I am very happy with both the product and the customer service from Renovo, especially a representative named Cici. She has been a great help from day one due to an issue with the order and followed up until the end, ensuring everything met my satisfaction. The communication exchanges were quick and efficient. The seat was damaged during delivery but was replaced very quickly. If I could give 11/10, I would. The bike is very fast, beautiful, and meets my expectations. I highly recommend it.
This ebike functions the way I imagined it would. Very easy to put together. Follow the instructions via video provided on youtube website if you need any additional help. I'm very happy with this ebike. I intend to use it often and spend more time outdoors. I am encouraged to exercise more often and stay healthy.
